FAZANA TOURIST INFORMATION
Fazana (Croatia, Istria) is small fishing town, situated not far from Pula, on Croatian largest peninsula Istra. Fazana has around 3000 inhabitants. The name Fazana comes from ancient name Phasianac (bird pheasant) and Vasianum (connected with production of amphoraes).
Fazana is first time mentioned as parish in 1150. St. Cosmas and Damian are protectors of Fazana. Their Church is located on lowest altitude in Istra, just 1 meter.
1379. in Fazana waters, there was a sea battle between Venice and Genova. In the time of Austro-Hungarian domination, and with involvement of Nobel Prize winner Robert Koch, Fazana starts developing. 2001. Fazana gaines a status of Municipality.
Fazana is known by its caramel, liquer and sardine factories. Sardine is blue fish of Mediterranean and Atlantic. Small Fishing Academy offers courses of salting sardines, fishing, gastronomy-preparing... Fazana is connected with Trst and other parts of Adriatic with developed boat connection.
Many statesmen and famous people have walked on Fazana`s waterfront, such as Franjo Josip the 1st, James Joyce, Henry Kissinger, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Naomi Campbell, Naser, Josip Broz Tito and many others.
