These salt pools are not only an authentic part of the past but also an interesting photographic motive.
In 10th century name Pag is first time mentioned according to historical documents. In the same century town Pag is completely urbanised. 1 km south from Pag there are remains of settlement (monastery and church) which anteceded today`s town Pag. Bela IV granted town Pag with attributes of free royal town. In 1376. croatian king Ludovik I confirmed that status. In 1433. Pag gets Town Statue, one of the first documents of that kind in Croatia.
The town of Pag is also the town of needlework - the well known lace. Every lace is a unique item. The slow and demanding process of making them is kept through centuries and still lives in the streets of the old town.

One kilometer to the south, there are the remains of a settlement (a fortified convent and a church) which was before today’s Pag – the Old town of Pag which the king Bela IV granted the status of the Royal Borough, on 30th March 1244. In 1443, the new town was started to build according to the strict designs of Juraj Dalmatinac, Renaissance sculptor and architect. There is the parish Church of the Assumption on the town’s biggest square.

The town has beautifully carved doorposts on the entrances of the noblemen’s houses and yards, small baroque balconies, stone coats of arms from the period 15th - 18th century and a magnificent portal on the Duke’s palace. This well-preserved mediaeval town, whose center is the cultural monument, even today has the function of the administrative, cultural and mercantile center.
