Motovun (Croatia, Istria) is municipality center and mediaeval town situated in central part of Croatian largest peninsula Istria, on south side of river Mirna.
Motovun has been inhabitated since the end of 2nd and 3rd century. Inscription in Renaissance tower testifies that. Proofs of mediaevil life are sculptures on Gothic entrance tower and other buildings. Mediaevil entrance in town is called Piazza di Sotto. Motovun has walls in a shape of a ring and two halfrings. To the top of Motovun hill lead 1052 stairs. Motovun has one of the biggest romanic palaces in Istria and Croatia. Gallery of modern art is located in tower from 16th century and it is part of large number of cultural and historical monuments in Motovun.

Old legend says that in a valley of river Mirna used to live giants and they were so big that they could hand each other big rocks and tools. One of the towns that they built was Motovun. According to legend, one of the giants Veli Joze was so strong that he could shake the bell tower of the Motovun Church.
It is very known Motovun Film Festival, which is dedicated to the movies made in small cinemas and independed productions. Motovun Film Festival is five-days lasting film marathon which presents movies in continuity from 10 am till 4 am. First Motovun Film Festival was opened on 10th of August in 1999.
