LOKVE TOURIST INFORMATION

Lokve (Croatia, Gorski Kotar, Kvarner Highlands) is located in western part of Croatian region Gorski Kotar. It is located on a plateau between town Rijeka and region Kvarner, between town Delnice and Fuzine.

Lokve is a Municipality consisted of 7 settlements: Lokve, Homer, Mrzla Vodica, Lazac Lokvarski, Sopac, Sljeme and Zelin Mrzlovodicki. Municipality Lokve has around 1120 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are directed to forestry, mining, farming and glasswork.

Lokve was one of the earliest settlements in Gorski Kotar. Earliest written documents about Lokve come from 1432. Lokve cave Bukovac is oldest finding of cave men in this area. Settlements of Municipality Lokve were built during the construction of Lujzinska road, which was built to connect town Karlovac and Adriatic sea.

Lokve is known by lakes Lokvarsko and Mrzlovodicko, cave Lokvarka and park-woods Golubinjak.

Lake Lokvarsko was built in 1954. On lake Lokvarsko was kept first World Championship in underwater navigation. Since 1978. on lake Lokvarsko has been kept traditional hikers' meeting. Lake Lokvarsko is surrounded by coniferous woods.

Cave Lokvarka is deepest cave in Croatia opened for visitors. It was discovered in 1912. Tourists can walk through 4 galleries. Temperature in the cave is always 6,5-8°C.

Park-woods Golubinjak is located 1 km far from Lokve. It is located on area of 51 hectares of protected area. In 1954. it was declared as Park-woods. Most known wood of Park-woods Golubinjak is „Queen of the wood“ fir tree, more than 250 years old, more than 35 m high and 140 cm wide.
