Ploce (Croatia, South Dalmatia) is a town that have very important port for Dubrovnik region. It is located on the coast of the Neretva channel, 4.5 kilometres north of the Neretva Delta. Ploce is basing it`s ecenomy on fishing, farming, production of asbestos-textile products. It has large number of terminals for liquids and wood. Ploce is connected with ferry lines daily with Trpanj on the Peljesac. Ploče is connected with road and railroad with Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
BIRDS
River Neretva area is very full of beautiful birds, over 310 different kinds. The Roman writer Katon published the firs news about the wealth in Neretva. Few travelers mentioned the abundance of birds and fish centuries later and European biologists showed interest for them. Natural history museum in Vienna keeps egs that were taken from the river Neretva area. Ornithology lover Rucner founded an Ornitologicac collection in which he prepared hundred of birds. He published a book called "On the life of birds in Neretva valley". Today, number of birds had decreased, partly because climate and ecological changes and partly because people hunted them.
