Pucisca (island Brac) Locate On Map

Pucisca (Croatia, Central Dalmatia, Island Brac) is known for stone extraction and cutting and is one of the largest centers of that kind of industry on Brac.

It is also a nice seaside resort, situated in a nice, well protected cove, which offers safe shelter for boats. Visitors can enjoy bathing, water sports, yachting and windsurfing. There are entertainment programs in the summer months. Pucisca (Pucisce), a small town and port on the north coast of the island of Brac.

Economy is based on farming, growing of olives and vines, tourism and fishing. Pucisca is the centre of stone extraction and cutting industry. There are three large quarries in the immediate vicinity, where the famous stone of Brac is extracted. Pucisca is situated on the regional road.

The cemetery includes the former Benedictine church of St. Stephen and near to the town is also the small Romanesque-Gothic church of St. George . In 1467 Ciprijan Zuvetic built the very first citadel in the town. Such citadels and forts were also later built by other wealthy families; there were 13 of them but only a few stand today.

The parish church includes a wooden relief above the main altar, the altarpiece representing St. Roch and the altarpiece of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Near to the town is the early Christian church of St. Stephen , reconstructed in the early Romanesque period .
