Liznjan (Croatia, Istria) is small fishing town situated on Croatian largest peninsula Istra, 2 km far from Medulin and 12 km far from Pula.
Liznjan is mentioned since 990. as village villa. In bay Kuje there was found capital of limestone from 5th century and Church of Lady of Kuje with a lamp with human figure of Christ.
First inhabitants of Liznjan came here from Sinj, Poljice and Imotski (part of Croatia called Central Dalmatia). Since 17th century it is recorded increase of population. Inhabitants are directed to agriculture and tourism. Liznjan offers many different kinds of accommodation such as private houses, apartments, rooms, villas...
Liznjan has 28 km long shore, with rocky beaches and beautiful bathing area.
Most known part of Liznjan is peninsula Marlera and its beach. 6 km far from Liznjan there is „punta Grkova“. On a cape there is a lighthouse Lanterna. It was inhabitated with one or two families.
Monuments to see in Liznjan:
- Church of Lady of Kuj from 17th century, with mosaic remains of Villa Rustica under glass floor;
- Church of St. Martina from 19th century;
- old graveyard built in 1779., where was Church of St. Mihovil, which was demolished in 1957., and its rocks were used to build new graveyard.
